個(gè)人生活編輯理查德·德萊弗斯父親是紐約的律師，9歲時(shí)他們?nèi)疫w居至洛杉磯，在60年代后期至70年代初到處流浪尋找各種演出機(jī)會(huì)。默默無(wú)聞的他早在1967年便出現(xiàn)在《畢業(yè)生》（TheGraduate，1967）等片中，直至出演了1973年的《美國(guó)風(fēng)情畫(huà)》（AmericanGraffiti，1973）才嶄露頭角。1975年，他參演了史蒂芬·斯皮爾伯格（StevenSpielberg）導(dǎo)演、轟動(dòng)一時(shí)的影片《大白鯊》（Jaws，1975），本人也跟著人氣急升，兩年后，他出演了斯皮爾伯格導(dǎo)演的另一部重要影片《第三類(lèi)接觸》（CloseEncountersoftheThirdKind，1977）。同年，在《再見(jiàn)女郎》（TheGoodbyeGirl，1977）中的表演令他以黑馬姿態(tài)勇奪奧斯卡影帝寶座，躍登巨星之列。他在其后的20多年中繼續(xù)主演過(guò)多部影片，以《生命因你而動(dòng)聽(tīng)》（Mr.Holland'sOpus，1995）再創(chuàng)表演事業(yè)的高潮。
